Benedetta Brevini is Associate Professor of Political Economy of Communication at the University of Sydney and Visiting Professor at the Institute for Public Knowledge, New York University (through 2025). She is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Her research is grounded in critical political economy and focuses on the intersections of communication, data capitalism, artificial intelligence, and the climate crisis, with particular attention to sustainable and environmental communication. Brevini has previously held tenured positions at City University London and Brunel University London and has worked as a journalist for CNBC, RAI, and The Guardian. She contributes regularly to various media outlets, including The Guardian, OpenDemocracy, and South China Morning Post.
Her books include Is AI Good for the Planet? (2021), Amazon: Understanding a Global Communication Giant (2021), News Corp: Empire of Influence (2024), Carbon Capitalism and Communication: Confronting Climate Crisis (2017), and Climate Change and the Media (2018). She is currently working on a monograph on communication, data capitalism, and the climate emergency (Polity, Cambridge).
