Nader El-Bizri

Nader El-Bizri is a professor, philosopher, architect, and historian of ideas. His prolific multidisciplinary transversal thought explores the synergies between art, science, and philosophy across the domains of technology, architectural humanities, and civilization studies, and how their confluences can promote and reinforce human flourishing, in theory and praxis, especially with the advent of Artificial Intelligence.

Throughout his global career, he has held prominent academic and institutional leadership appointments. He has been a longstanding Affiliated Scholar with the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge and is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Professorial Honorary rank at the Warburg Institute, School of Advanced Study, University of London. He also acted as the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Sharjah. Prior to that he was a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at Durham University and a tenured Professor in Philosophy and Civilization Studies at the American University of Beirut, where he also served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and as Director of the university-wide General Education in the Liberal Arts. Before that he taught and conducted advanced research across the academic ranks at various universities, including Harvard, Nottingham, Lincoln, Birkbeck, and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris.

He serves on various academic boards internationally and is the General Editor of the acclaimed Epistles of the Brethren of Purity philosophy series that is published by Oxford University Press. He also acts as a referee to diverse international academic and cultural institutions, including the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council, the British Academy, and the Leverhulme Trust. Moreover, he has been an advisor to the Science Museum in London, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in Geneva, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in Berlin, and the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

He furthermore practiced as an architectural designer in New York, Cambridge, London, and Beirut. In recognition of his global profile, he has been interviewed via culturally renowned BBC and France Culture TV/radio programmes, and he received prestigious awards and honours, including the distinguished Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Prize, and has been elected as a Mellon Global Fellow of the Liberal Arts via the Claremont Colleges Consortium in California.
