Roopika Risam

Roopika Risam is Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies and of Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College, where she is part of the Digital Humanities and Social Engagement Cluster.

Her research examines the intersections of data, technology, and power, with particular attention to race, colonialism, and global inequality in digital culture.

She is the author of New Digital Worlds: Postcolonial Digital Humanities in Theory, Praxis, and Pedagogy (Northwestern University Press, 2018) and the forthcoming Data Empire (HarperCollins, 2026), a global history of data and power from ancient recordkeeping systems to contemporary artificial intelligence.

Her work has appeared in numerous journals and edited collections across digital humanities, media studies, and postcolonial studies.
